Saturday, September 12th // Chris Duarte Group LIVE at The Rosebud // $20 Presale, $25 at the Door // All Ages // Doors 6pm, Show 7pm // Blues, Rock, Ferocious Blues // Buy Tickets Here
To classify Chris Duarte simply as a Blues Man is an understatement. In his own words, “rockin’ blues” or ”punk blues” describes him best. “Ferocious blues” also fits. Legend has it that Chris will play so hard that his fingers bleed in a set. The legend is true. Photos attest.
Firebrand blues guitarist Chris Duarte dropped his sophomore album, Texas Sugar Strat Magik, in 1994, and it sold an excess of 100,000 units. It was a big success for a modern blues album. Duarte went onto win the highly coveted “Best New Talent” in Guitar Player’s Reader’s Poll, and he finished fourth in the magazine’s “Best Blues Guitarist” category, behind legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King. He would go on to issue a string of critically acclaimed blues, blues-rock albums, and experimental fusion-tinged albums. In the ensuing years, Duarte would also maintain an in-demand touring schedule both as a solo artist and as a sideman.

Nationally recognized writer and musician Josh Gross presents a riveting, poignant, and strangely funny new one-man music/storytelling show exploring the literary and narrative history of murder ballads: a centuries-old folk music tradition of recounting and often justifying notorious crimes in song. But here, the songs, and the crimes they are based on, are given a supernatural twist, and told from the perspectives of the ghosts of the victims instead of from those of the killers. Part musical performance, part campfire story, part history lesson, part confessional, The Ghost Ballads puts a supernatural twist on a centuries-old musical tradition to present it in an entirely new light. The show will contain mature topics and themes.
The performance will be followed by a set of traditional Appalachian murder ballads from Rogue Valley bluegrass supergroup, Quartz Creek, featuring Tristan Moonbow Jensen of Moonbow, James McCoy of Crooken Heart, Coleman Antonucci, and Jack Worman.

In a genre full of tall tales and marketable lies, New Orleans’ Chris Acker crafts candid songs – weaving his wit and woes into a body of work that exposes the stale plight of the American Songster to the honest, and sometimes hilarious, light of day.
In the tradition of Guthrie and Prine, Chris lends a quavering voice to the half-rotten romance of the unremarkable and unrefined. Regardless if you’re sitting by a backyard fire on a muggy Louisiana night or standing stage-side in some far flung town, when you hear Chris Acker playing, you’re hearing the end result of countless hours of observing the masters of the craft…and the end result of repeating their mistakes.

Louis Armstrong was once asked what his favorite kind of music was, and his response was simple; “Good music”. Petunia & the Vipers’ sound may not sit comfortably in one certain genre, but “Good Music” describes it well. Hank Williams on acid… Tom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction… Avant-Country night club scene music… One of the best bands in the world today, of any kind… hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show… A new music that springboards off of music of the past and jumps into the present day, left with only echoes of the past… Something in between 1920’s and steam punk. It’s good for your mind… These are just a few of the words uttered by folks around the globe trying to pin down a description of all that is Petunia & The Vipers.

Russian Blue, combobox, Sellout LIVE at The Rosebud
Saturday, August 29th // Russian Blue, combobox Sellout LIVE at The Rosebud // $15 // All Ages // Doors 6pm, Show 7pm // Alternative Punk, Spankwave, Indie Rock // Buy Tickets Here
Russian Blue is six people, a wall of synthesizers, and a room full of strangers dancing like they've known each other for years. The Seattle band makes synth-driven post-punk that owes as much to the dancefloor as it does to the stage, landing somewhere between LCD Soundsystem's restless pulse and the emotional sweep of Bleachers.
Portland’s combobox makes precision‑cut, high‑energy alt‑punk they’ve nicknamed spankwave, with songs that snap, grin, and go. Imagine the nervy angles and deadpan wit of Talking Heads colliding with the hair‑trigger dynamics of System of a Down. Modern peers includie Gustaf and early Bloc Party. The writing is compact, with most tracks landing well under three minutes, and the live show mirrors that economy. Minimal time between songs; maximum momentum. Crowds skank, a little pit bubbles up, and the band’s black and white jumpsuit uniform turns the stage into a blinking logo.
With Roseburg’s alternative rockers Sellout.

Over that pulse, the guitar howls, sighs, and testifies, blending R&B soul, blues grit and rock and roll fire. The result is music that grooves hard but feels loose - a raw yet real conversation between rhythm and melody that simmers, swells and hits you right in the chest.
