Local jazz bass legend Judah Sensebaugh brings his trio from the corners of the country together for an all ages evening of modern jazz.
Tyler Waltner (Tenor Saxophone):
Tyler Waltner began playing the saxophone at age nine. His jazz education started at the Bak Middle School of the Arts. In high school, he studied for two years under Devin Phillips and Christopher Brown through the American Music Program / Portland Jazz Collective. During his junior and senior years, he founded his own bands: Overbridge and the Tyler Waltner Trio/Quartet. He also continued his studies at the Alan Jones Academy of Music under the mentorship of Leon Cotter and Alan Jones. Tyler currently attends the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he continues to develop his craft.
Evan Furrow (Drums):
Drummer Evan Furrow, a rising talent from Eugene, Oregon, has always been ahead of his years. By 15, he had already made his mark in Eugene and Portland, often the youngest musician on stage. Now 19, he’s in New York, studying at the Manhattan School of Music.
Furrow started playing drums at 12 and began gigging and performing by 14 around town, his momentum briefly halted by the pandemic. But in that stillness, he studied with jazz greats Dan Weiss and Ari Hoenig, sharpening his craft. When the world reopened, he returned stronger, playing alongside local greats and internationally renowned artists such as George Colligan.
Currently, Furrow is working to develop further as a musician and artist in New York’s turbulent Jazz scene.
Judah Sensabaugh (Bass):
Judah Sensabaugh is an aspiring professional bassist from Roseburg, Oregon. He began making music at a very young age, as his entire family is musically inclined. Judah picked up the electric bass in sixth grade, followed by the upright bass a year later. Under the guidance of outstanding instructors such as Mr. Ross Hansen and Dr. Jason Heald, he honed his technique, explored jazz history, and expanded his repertoire. His passion for music, especially jazz, flourished rapidly, and by his junior and senior years of high school, he earned a spot in the All-State Jazz Ensemble, where he met both Evan and Tyler.
Most recently, Judah completed his first year of undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas, home to one of the nation’s most prestigious jazz programs. There, he performs regularly in the Dallas–Fort Worth scene. Throughout his time in Oregon and Texas, he has had the privilege of working with many notable artists, including Lynn Seaton, Tyler Abbott, Quincy Davis, Colman Burks, Kai Wagner, Natalie Wagner, Paul Metzger, and, of course, his early mentors Ross Hansen and Jason Heald.
